Cambridge Arts & Crafts
Cambridge, Massachusetts
Designed in 1892 by renowned architect Ralph Adams Cram, this Arts & Crafts residence was renovated to preserve historic character while accommodating the contemporary living needs of a young family. The work included an expanded kitchen, new mahogany-lined library, and modifications to the gracious main staircase. Existing fireplaces were restored with new Pewabic Pottery tile—a reference to the material traditions and craftsmanship central to the Arts & Crafts movement. New glazing was designed to complement the original architecture, including leaded glass at the sink that introduces a soft texture to the space, and large custom double-hung units at the dining area. On the third floor, an added custom copper skylight brings natural light into the playroom.
